The textile and apparel industry is one of the earliest industries developed in India. It is the biggest employer after agriculture. In order to meet the skill gap in the industry and also to supplement its efforts initiated through the Special Package for Garments and Made-ups, the Government has approved the new scheme titled “Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector (SCBTS)” which shall be known by the name – समर्थ (Samarth).
The Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India has been designated as the Resource Support Agency (RSA) under Samarth. The Textiles Committee envisages empanelment of Third Party Assessment Agencies for assessing the trainees trained by Implementing Partners (IPs) under Samarth during the currency of the scheme i.e 2017-2020.
