FAQ on Geographical Indications
The Geographical Indications (GIs) which is a part of TRIPS agreement will prove to be an important instrument for protecting the originality of traditional products like Sambalpur sarees, Mysore Silk, Kancheepuram sarees, Solapur Chaddar etc. In India it is estimated that about 50,000 products requires protection under GIs. In this regard, the parliament has enacted an Act on 1999 for protecting the Geographical Indications. Even though several reports and publications have been published in this regard in both internet and print media, this booklet on Geographical Indications (GIs) will prove to be useful to the readers who wish to know more about the subject.
